Notes From Moving Offices
Moving from an apartment to an office building changes more than furniture; it changes how the team works.
This summer we moved into an office twice the size of the old one. Viewing, signing, fitting out and moving took three months. The hard part was not the move, but deciding how to use the space afterwards.
Why we moved
The old office was in a residential building with a single meeting table, and client visits had to be arranged in advance. The team had grown by half and desks had reached the corridor.
More importantly, we wanted a place where we could host clients and run small technical sessions.
Three changes afterwards
Fixed desks became project-based seating, with product and engineering next to each other.
A quiet room is available for anyone who needs half a day of uninterrupted focus.
Friday afternoons the meeting room opens to anyone who wants to talk about what they are building.
Space changes behaviour. Moving took three months; making the new space work may take a year.
