The One Line Nobody Reads in a Quote
'Third-party costs excluded' has saved us a surprising number of arguments.
Quotes are long. Clients read the total first and the notes last. After being burned a few times, we put a sentence on the first line of the notes: the price excludes third-party services such as SMS, maps, servers and certification.
A real lesson
One system went live and SMS volume jumped, adding more than two thousand yuan of cost in a month. The client believed SMS was included; we believed it was a third-party charge.
We argued for two weeks and split the difference. The amount was small; the discomfort was not.
How we handle it now
Both the quote and the contract list third-party services with an estimated range.
Where possible the client opens the account and we integrate, so bills stay transparent.
If a client wants a bundle, a separate line for annual third-party estimates appears, never mixed into development fees.
Say it on the quote page, not in a contract annex. The quote page is the one everyone actually reads.
