Digital Fault Lines in Supply Chains
Every company has its own systems; connecting them is where the gaps appear.
Supply chain digitalisation is often reduced to internal systems, but real value lives across companies. We see several typical fault lines and some pragmatic fixes.
Typical gaps
Order and logistics: the internal status says shipped, but actual location requires checking a carrier portal by hand.
Inventory: distributors report via phone or chat, consolidating next day and reallocating by intuition.
Reconciliation: both sides keep their own books and reconcile monthly in spreadsheets, consuming finance hours.
Pragmatic fixes
Do not chase full-chain integration; connect one high-frequency link first, such as order status sync or reconciliation.
Lightweight interfaces beat heavy integration: give partners a query portal or mini program instead of building a supplier portal.
Agree on data formats before coding interfaces: unified product codes and document conventions make development faster.
Supply chain gains come from collaboration efficiency, not the sophistication of one system. Closing one gap beats buying a new platform.
