The First 90 Days of Going Global: Storefront, Payments and Fulfillment
Having an English website is only the beginning. What really decides the first 90 days is payments, compliance and delivery experience beyond the storefront.
The most common mistake brands make when going global is treating an English website as the whole first step. What really determines success in the first 90 days is payments, compliance and fulfillment outside the storefront.
Month one: positioning and storefront
Answer three questions first: who are you selling to, who are you compared with, and why should customers choose you. The site structure, product information and content should all be built around those answers, not simply translated from the Chinese website. Multilingual is not word-by-word translation; it is making the value obvious to local users at a glance.
Month two: payments and compliance
- Choose payment methods that cover the target market and watch approval and chargeback rates;
- Clarify taxes, returns and privacy policy so you are not forced into remediation after launch;
- Complete the order, invoice and after-sales flow instead of only connecting a payment button.
Month three: fulfillment and conversion
Cross-border fulfillment involves first-mile shipping, customs clearance, overseas warehouses and last-mile delivery. Any information gap in that chain becomes a customer service ticket. The storefront needs to present tracking and exception status transparently. At the same time, use real data to review landing pages, add-to-cart and payment conversion, and find the step in the funnel most worth optimizing.
Going global is not about shipping products out. It is about building a trustworthy delivery experience.
Ninety days is not enough to build a brand, but it is enough to validate whether a path works. Close the minimum loop first, then talk about scale.
